Lucas Euser is the personification of mental and physical toughness. The 29 year-old Napa, California native and current Boulder, Colorado resident joins the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team this year following a three-year stint with Team SpiderTech powered by C10, and on the heels of an impressive season where Euser proved once again he can climb with the best in the sport.
For Euser, this professional athlete’s journey to the top of his sport was unlike most. While growing up in Northern California’s beautiful wine country, Euser spent time surfing, snowboarding, BMX and mountain bike riding, before transitioning to the road. Once the decision was made, the incredibly talented Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduate’s rapid ascent included spending time in Belgium with the US U23 team before jumping to the Pro Tour level in 2008 with the Garmin-Slipsteam team.
Then, in 2009, Lucas nearly lost all he had worked so hard for in Girona, Spain when a car hit him while he was on the bike. Euser fought hard to recover from the accident and was able to do so after suffering what could have been a career ending injury. In the time since his recovery and return to pro cycling, Lucas has delivered consistently and 2013 should prove to be no different for one of the most mentally and physically tough men in the pro peloton.
