John Murphy

Rider Bio

John Murphy returns to the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team in 2015 following
two solid first years with the team in 2013 and 2014. Murphy landed on podium
several times in 2013, including 2nd place in the Tour of Elk Grove Time Trial
and 3rd in Stage 2 of the same race. He also played a pivotal and consistent
role in delivering his teammates to the podium throughout Team
UnitedHealthcare’s outstanding campaign last season. Last year was a
breakthrough season for Murphy, as he heroically led the day’s main breakaway
into the Arenberg Forest at the 2014 Paris-Roubaix. Murphy showed his capability
as an all-rounder when he claimed the King of the Mountain title in the 2014
Tour of Denmark, then went on to lap the field in with a strong breakaway then
sprinted for victory in the 2014 US National Criterium Championship, claiming
the stars and stripes for the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team, the second in
his career (2009).

Prior to joining Team UnitedHealthcare in 2013, Murphy enjoyed stints with the
BMC Racing Team and Kenda/5Hour Energy Presented by Gear Grinder. Several years
ago, he rode with HealthNet Presented by Maxxis moniker (prior to
UnitedHealthcare becoming the title sponsor of the HealthNet team), and in 2009
was the winner of the US National Pro Criterium Championship and overall winner
of the 2008 Tour of Taiwan.

Murphy has made a name for himself throughout his career as an amazing lead-out
man and a sprinter. Both a criterium conqueror and a threat in any major stage
race, the versatile Asheville, North Carolina resident and two-time World
Championship Team member continues to be an integral component in
UnitedHealthcare’s push toward more podiums in 2015. Expect Murphy to factor in
heavily in the Team’s pursuit of victories this season.
