Kiel Reijnen returns to the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team in 2015 following an outstanding 2014 campaign with the Blue Train. One of the sport’s most popular riders, the podium regular raised the bar in 2014 with a repeat win at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, multiple top-10 results at the tour of Utah and California, then reaffirmed his abilities with a triumphant stage 1 victory along the streets of Aspen, Colorado in the 2014 USA Pro Challenge. The stage 1 victory landed Reijnen in the printer’s green jersey, which he and the team successfully defended through the final stage.
One of the best American riders in the peloton, Kiel Reijnen has developed into a proven and dangerous sprinter, capable of surviving the most challenging selections and delivering at the line. Reijnen won the Tour of Thailand and the Tour of Rwanda prior to joining Team UnitedHealthcare in 2013. He has also finished in the top three at China’s high-mountain Tour of Qinghai Lake, as well as the Tour of Hainan and the Tour de Korea.
Kiel Reijnen is not just a professional athlete. In addition to cycling, Kiel enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, reading about the brain, or designing wooden creations, as much as he does racking up top-10 finishes and wins in the sport’s biggest races.
Reijnen understands the commitment, discipline and determination required to be successful as a member of the pro peloton. He began racing at the age of 17, encouraged and supported by his father and family. Kiel discovered a true love for the sport growing up in the Pacific Northwest before moving to Boulder, Colorado at age 20 to attend the University of Colorado where he raced and trained for both developmental, national and collegiate teams while pursuing his degree in mechanical engineering.
Growing up in the wild woods of Bainbridge Island, Kiel developed a deep love and appreciation for nature, something he very much wants to share with younger generations.
His wife, Jordan shares this same passion through her involvement with ImagineChildhood.com (blog, community forum and shop) where parents and kids can find their own definition of childhood. Imagine Childhood was founded on the premise that children should experience the world through their own eyes, ears, fingers, and toes. That direct interaction with nature is the best way to learn about the world, and that open-ended imaginative play is the best way to learn about what it could be. This is an ideal Kiel shares, and together with his wife they are excited to integrate these efforts into their community to get kids
outside, riding bikes and enjoying nature.
